Dear Reader,

puppy being washed in tubI’m so happy, you’re visiting my site and are perusing my blog posts. Staying on top of the constant changes in software and website updates is a full-time job in itself. So, this site has changed again and you will find any new posts to your right. I thought I would dedicate this section to my dear friend and old dog, Mocha.

brown dogIn 2004, we were lucky to adopt our beautiful mutt from the Humane Society in Bloomington, Ind. We later found out that Mocha was mostly an Australian Cattle Dog (ACD), a breed not too common in the U.S. Mocha joined our family and our hearts and became inseparable. ACDs are not only extremely tough, but also among breeds rank in the top twelve in intelligence. They imprint on their owner(s), often just one and our case, my husband, Ben, became top dog. Mocha accompanied us everywhere and if we couldn’t take her, we hired a house sitter, so she wouldn’t have to spend time in a kennel.

black and white dogIn 2017, Mocha accompanied us to Germany where she spent two more years perusing the neighborhood and threatening cats and dogs. In her last year, her eyesight had pretty much left her, even her hearing was pretty much gone. But she still loved her walks and I’m pretty sure, her nose continued working quite well.

Saying goodbye to her in 2019 broke our hearts. We mourned her and she still spoke to us with her spirit.

cottage in the eveningNow, two years later, after moving back to the country and onto a spacious property, we have adopted our sweetheart, Zelda. She is an older mutt from the humane society who loves to hunt and play. But her favorite activity is hanging out with my husband in the garden, digging and sniffing out mice.

Even if we have welcomed another dog into our family, Mocha will always be in our hearts.
